  • Hundreds participated in the 10th annual Polar Plunge at Salty Goat Saloon, taking a freezing dip in the Gulf to raise funds for the Leukemia Research Foundation. The event honored founder Gary Gault & featured raffles from local businesses supporting the cause.  WJHG

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Jan. 8, a cleaning procedure (using muriatic acid) at Port Panama City led to multiple crew members being sent to the hospital, prompting a review of safety protocols.  WJHG

CULTURE NEWS

  • A Bay County resident was featured on Wheel of Fortune last night — the appearance showcased local talent on a national game show and brought recognition to our community.  WJHG

EDUCATION NEWS

  • FSU Panama City’s anesthesiology program head, Stacey Van Dyke, appeared on Wheel of Fortune last Friday and hosted a watch party at Sharky’s in Panama City Beach to celebrate her game show appearance — she wore pink to honor her late mother.  WJHG

SPORTS NEWS

  • Freeport freshman Athiei Dhal scored 28 points & recorded 11 blocks in a 55 to 25 win over Rutherford on Jan. 9. She is emerging as a dominant player in state and national rankings after gaining valuable experience competing with elite talent this offseason.  Panama City News Herald
