  • The A.D. Harris Learning Village hosted a Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration with food, music and dancing, organized by local Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA) and other Divine Nine groups. Vendors lined the event and Rebuild Bay County is working to bring new life to the site.  WJHG
  • Ascension Sacred Heart Foundation’s Annual Gala returns with dinner, dancing & auctions, with the event scheduled for later this year in Panama City.  WJHG

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • After a fire killed 7 lemurs last week, ZooWorld reopened today showing visible damage while staff work on recovery, and investigators say the fire began in a heating unit on a cold night without human error.  WJHG

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Local restaurants Beef 'O'Brady's and Pineapple Willy's expect a busy night as fans gather for the College National Championship — special deals will attract sports fans and snowbirds.  WJHG

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Keith Meyerl joined the City as its new Parks, Culture and Recreation Director on Tuesday, Dec. 9, after more than 20 years managing parks in Panama City Beach and Jacksonville to boost local programs and facilities.  City of Panama City
  • The City will host Downtown Marina charrettes on January 21 and 22 at City Hall — inviting citizens, stakeholders, and planners to collaborate on design and infrastructure for a two-phase marina development plan.  City of Panama City

HEALTH NEWS

  • Bay County will soon offer new cancer clinical trials that will enroll local patients for advanced treatment options. The announcement was made on Medical Monday and supports ongoing efforts to improve community healthcare.  WJHG
