COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Panama City residents needing warmth can use the Rebuild Bay warming shelter, open nightly until Friday from 6 p.m. to noon at A.D. Harris Learning Village, 819 E. 11th Street. Free BayWay Transit rides run until 8 p.m. + volunteers and meal donations are welcome.  Bay County Coastal

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Panama City Beach Mardi Gras & Music Festival will take place at Pier Park Jan. 30-31 with a full schedule for kids on Friday featuring a float tour at 3:45 p.m. and Saturday’s parade at 4:15 p.m. that will end with fireworks at 7:15 p.m.  Panama City News Herald

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Bay District Schools held a CTE Career Expo on Tuesday as part of CTE month, giving high school students a chance to connect with 25 local industry and educational partners (exploring opportunities from summer jobs to post-graduation careers) in the area.  WJHG
  • The school district installed new security cameras, locks, and access controls at Cheery Street and Parker Elementary Schools on Jan. 27 and is expanding upgrades at Rutherford High School.  WJHG

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Panama City commissioners approved a Florida DOT project to add new pedestrian safety measures at the 12th Street and Harrison Avenue intersection near Bay High School + the resolution passed on Jan. 27 will help improve walkability in the community.  WJHG

HEALTH NEWS

  • Seven restaurants including Big Easy, Firehouse Subs, Hardee's, Havana Night Bar and Grill, Jake's Wayback Burgers, KFC and Outback Steakhouse earned perfect scores during Jan. 19-25 inspections. Meanwhile, Wine World, Diego's Burrito Factory and a second inspection at Jake's Wayback Burgers showed high-priority food safety violations requiring follow-up.  Panama City News Herald

  • North Haven boys soccer team won a district title after beating Florida High 5-3 in a penalty shootout. The win, achieved recently, showed the players' skill and teamwork.  Panama City News Herald
