ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A Bay County family lost their home to an electrical fire on Jan. 20 just days before welcoming baby Melodie, who was born a week early and is expected to leave the NICU in six days + community members have donated essential supplies while the family still needs help rebuilding.  WJHG

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Bay County will see record-cold temperatures this weekend as wind chills drop to single digits and a hard freeze is likely on Saturday (gusts reaching up to 35 mph are forecast); residents should follow local alerts for warming shelters.  Panama City News Herald

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Supplemental Security Income checks for February will be issued on Friday, Jan. 30+ the 2.8% cost-of-living adjustment means the payments will be slightly higher, as Feb. 1 falls on a Sunday.  Panama City News Herald
  • Panama City Beach Police will work with several agencies to enforce new strict curfew regulations for spring break, with the measures set to begin later this spring to help maintain public order.  WJHG
  • Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport will begin new ramp pavement and a north terminal expansion in 2026 to improve passenger experience and streamline rental car pick-ups, with Cardella Construction leading the project. The upgrades respond to rising passenger traffic and limited available land.  WJHG
  • Airport officials reported that flight operations will normalize in three to four days as crews install new pavement and start a terminal expansion to the north, recovering from recent winter storm disruptions. The project is a key part of restoring the airport's full operations.  WJHG
