  • The St. Andrews Mardi Gras festival kicks off today at 4 p.m. in St. Andrews Bay with food trucks, vendors and live music (including kids’ and dog parades). Community organizers offer golf cart shuttles as parking is limited.  WJHG

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Florida Panhandle Marine Institute revealed its new waterfront habitat on Feb. 6 to boost marine research and education. More details about the facility will be shared soon.  WJHG

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bay County officials held a Feb. 5 press conference to stress safety and order for the spring break high impact period from Mar. 28 to Apr. 11 — covering key zones near Pier Park and along Middle Beach Road. HEALTH NEWS

  • Florida’s Department of Health tested eight bread brands on Feb. 6 and found glyphosate in six of them, giving consumers key information to help choose safer bread.  Panama City News Herald
  • FSU Panama City received a $100K donation to address a critical healthcare shortage in the area & boost local health services. The contribution was announced earlier and will support efforts to improve access to care.  WJHG
  • Local groups and community members wore red on Fri, Feb. 6 to raise awareness for heart disease in women & stress the importance of heart health screenings.  WJHG

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Data from Realtor.com shows that in November the median home price in Bay County rose 3.4% to $365000 from October's figure. Home prices for single family properties slightly declined while condo prices increased, offering buyers and sellers mixed market options.  Panama City News Herald
