- ➤ Historic photos show Panama City’s Rosenwald School, built in 1928 for Black students during segregation, and they include images from the 1950s as well as the 2005 flag dedication at Glenwood Community Center (a reminder of a rich local legacy). Panama City News Herald
- ➤ FSU Panama City will host acclaimed novelist Terah Shelton Harris for a literary luncheon Tuesday, Feb. 17 at the Holley Academic Center. Tickets cost $50 and include lunch + a signed copy of her new novel, Where the Wildflowers Grow. WJHG
- ➤ St. Andrew Bay Quilters' Guild Quilt Show 2026 will give local quilters a chance to display their creativity at the guild's venue — the organization will share details on timing and location soon. WJHG
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Northwest Florida Water Management District issued a water shortage warning on Feb. 12 as a 6.2-inch rainfall deficit deepened drought conditions in Panama City and nearby areas. Officials recommend voluntary water reductions for landscape irrigation while minor rainfall is forecast on Feb. 15. Panama City News Herald

- ➤ Hentz Park reopened Friday after years of rebuilding caused by hurricanes. City officials said the restoration resolved flooding in the Hentz neighborhood by connecting stormwater pipes to the park pond, funded by a $950,000 state grant plus city and forestry funds. WJHG

- ➤ The Tommy Lazzaro Foundation will award its first student-athlete sponsorships to four players from Niceville and Mosley; two will be honored on Feb. 16 in Niceville and two—Samuel Chisolm and Ga’Marcus Halstead—at noon on Feb. 23 in Mosley, each set to receive training, gear and camps to boost college chances. - ➤ North Bay Haven’s Chase Reed was named FPL Athlete of the Week on Feb. 13 after logging four assists in a boys soccer match against Fernandina Beach — his performance earned 101 votes and marked his 100th career goal contribution. Panama City News Herald
- ➤ North Bay Haven wrestlers Koa DeLoach and Bear Siegal signed Division I scholarships on Feb. 11 during senior night at North Bay Haven Charter Academy as they advanced their high school wrestling careers. DeLoach signed with Davidson Wildcats while Siegal committed to Bloomsburg University. Panama City News Herald
