COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Panama City Beach Utilities Director addressed a water outage and issued a boil water notice on Feb. 24 (residents were advised to boil their water until repairs were complete).  WJHG
  • Recent construction forced the farmers market to move repeatedly, prompting local vendors and community leaders to debate a permanent location at upcoming public meetings. The decision will be made soon.  WJHG

CULTURE NEWS

  • Panama City Comedy and the Unity Chorus of Northwest Florida will perform a weekend show downtown that blends musical tunes and comedy for a lively local event.  WJHG

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At Tuesday's school board meeting, board members approved Dag Architects to build a new $3.6 million facility for Margaret K. Lewis; the project will boost local education services.  WJHG
  • Water service was restored yesterday by 7:45 a.m. — all schools resumed normal operations by 9:30 a.m.  WJHG

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Mote lab is testing a new red tide mitigation product called Xtreme RT this week on active blooms in St. Andrews Bay and East Bay as scientists work to reduce harmful algae impacts.  WJHG

HEALTH NEWS

  • Two Bay restaurants received high-priority violations during inspections from Feb. 16-22. Harpoon Harry's on Front Beach Rd. and Thai Basil on Beck Ave. had issues with temperature control & food safety that will require follow-up reviews.  Panama City News Herald
  • A water loss in Panama City Beach has led officials to issue a precautionary boil water notice through at least Thursday & advise residents and schools to use bottled water until the issue is resolved.  WJHG
