- ➤ Bay County residents organized a fish fry fundraiser at Tommy Oliver Stadium on Friday to support Mary Burch after losing her 17-year-old son, Blake Vaughan. Local groups and Tarpon Dock helped show care for the grieving family. WJHG
- ➤ The new MLK Jr. Recreation Center won the ‘Apple of Our Eye’ Award on March 6 during the Chamber’s First Friday event. City officials (Commissioner Janice Lucas and Director Keith Meyerl) accepted the honor for the center’s design and community benefits. City of Panama City
- ➤ Janet Davis was named this week’s Golden Apple Award winner for her community contributions in Panama City, as announced recently. Local residents are excited to see her dedication honored. WJHG
- ➤ Bay County Commissioner Doug Moore said the new Southport Recreational Complex will open soon in Southport to ease crowded sports fields and cut travel for families while supporting youth sports. WJHG
- ➤ Bay County Search and Rescue held its annual three-day K-9 training seminar in Panama City from Feb. 26 to Feb. 28. About 45 handlers from Texas, Kentucky, and Canada sharpened lifesaving skills such as trailing, human remains detection, and area search at Parker Environmental Exploratorium and the Panama City Mall. - ➤ Florida’s top five auto insurers will lower premiums by an average of 8% for 2026 & nearly 80% of policyholders will save money due to legislative reforms, state regulators said. Panama City News Herald
- ➤ On Mar. 6, Florida gas prices rose 11 cents overnight to $3.353 nationally, spurred by disruptions in oil supplies from tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, while Panama City stations posted averages of $2.974 & analysts expect rates to climb another 20 to 30 cents soon. Panama City News Herald
