- ➤ The Bay County Tourist Development Council has offered Okaloosa County $3 million to sink the SS United States closer to Panama City so it can become the world’s largest artificial reef; dive shop representatives say the move will boost local tourism. If approved, the ship—nearly as long as the Chrysler Building is tall—will be sunk 180 feet below the water, placing it 20 miles nearer to Panama City than earlier suggestions. - ➤ Strong thunderstorms with possible long-track tornadoes—reaching EF2 or stronger—are expected to hit parts of Florida starting Saturday night, and the Panhandle plus North Florida face heavy rain, large hail, and damaging wind gusts; residents should prepare as the system moves through into Monday. - ➤ Bay County officials distributed double-red surf flags to about 100 beach vendors on Wednesday to warn beachgoers of unsafe swimming conditions during high-risk double-red flag events — the smaller flags will be placed near the water to supplement the larger flags near beach accesses. - ➤ NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams on the International Space Station are set to return if SpaceX launches Crew 10 on Friday night, with a splashdown landing expected off the Florida coast no earlier than Wednesday, March 19. They have spent 281 days in orbit—nearly reaching 286 days—and this mission ranks as the sixth longest in NASA history. Panama City News Herald

- ➤ North Bay Haven hosted and won the first FHSAA-sanctioned boys volleyball match in Bay County by defeating Choctawhatchee (3-2) with local students from different schools taking part.
