ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Wildlife Harbour Rescue (founded by Cindy Lavine) and Panhandle Wildlife Rescue (led by Shelby Robinson and Jim Johnson) work around the clock to care for injured, orphaned and sick animals across 14 counties in the Panhandle. They operate without government funding and depend on donations and volunteers to provide timely rescue services. WJHG
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ MLK Rec Center remains on schedule. Back in January its skeleton was finished—and contractors began building the walls—and work continues as planned. WJHG
- ➤ Bay County has requested an audit from Governor Ron DeSantis’ DOGE task force to review government spending—commissioners will vote on participating in the audit on April 1. WJHG
- ➤ The city of Panama City Beach will conduct a transportation study to choose a modern transit method for visitors and residents after current traffic projects on Back Beach and Front Beach Roads finish this summer—Mayor Stuart Tettemer said the study will review options such as LSVs, E-bikes, trams and public transit with funding from the CRA. - ➤ Beachgoers competed at the Animal Beach spring break strength and fitness challenge in Panama City Beach on March 19—competing in rope climbs, bench presses, and pull-ups—and powerlifter Roger Strick bench pressed 435 pounds. Panama City News Herald
