Good morning, Panama City. Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 25th of March.

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Most spring break crowds across Florida have faded as local colleges held breaks in March and most students are set to return to school by March 31. Extra out-of-state college visitors are expected to drop off by the second week of April — easing the busy season on our beaches.  Panama City News Herald

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Audubon Florida urges beachgoers to share the shore with nesting birds—especially Snowy Plovers—by respecting posted nesting areas, keeping dogs on designated beaches, and not leaving trash or food that can attract predators. This guidance helps protect the young birds while they raise their fledglings.  Panama City News Herald
  • Jett, a 14-year-old bottlenose dolphin, died from head trauma after hitting the pool's shallow end during a 12:30 p.m. dolphin show in early March at Gulf World Marine Park. Local residents and officials have raised concerns over the park's poor water quality and disrepair — state and federal agencies are set to inspect the conditions.  Panama City News Herald
  • Bay County residents picked up oak and elm trees at Daffin Park on March 22 as part of a $1 million grant to repopulate the urban tree canopy — the next tree giveaway will be held on April 26 at Oaks by the Bay Park.  Panama City News Herald

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • FDOT has issued a series of construction advisories for Bay County roads. Powell Adams Road will be closed from March 24–March 31 for drainage work, and SR 390, Gulf Coast Parkway, Hutchison Boulevard and U.S. 98 15th Street will see intermittent lane closures for resurfacing, striping and drainage improvements.  Panama City News Herald
  • Local sheriff’s offices participated in the Florida Sheriffs Association’s K-9 March Madness photo contest that began Monday, March 24—featuring K-9s Jocko from Walton, Beau from Okaloosa, Colt from Holmes, Valentine from Franklin, and Loki from Gulf County—and invited residents to cast their votes.  WJHG
  • Online provocateur Andrew Tate said his feud with Gov. Ron DeSantis is over and that the governor admitted a mistake — he stated that conversations have settled the dispute. Florida authorities continue to investigate possible crimes involving Tate and his brother Tristan, even though they have left the state — the probe remains active despite their departure.  Panama City News Herald
  • State Representative Griff Griffitts said law enforcement and regulatory agencies are investigating Gulf World Marine Park after records show four dolphins died since last October. Panama City Beach Police are working with the State Attorney’s office to inspect animal health – health officials were denied entry on Monday – and agencies continue to monitor the situation.  WJHG
