COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Since 2024, Operation Spay Bay (a local non-profit) has worked with the city to control the feral cat population by spaying or neutering 184 cats and giving them rabies shots as spring brings more kittens. Panama City Beach residents can use a voucher (only valid for this program) to get their feral cats fixed without cost.  WJHG
  • Neysa Wilkins retired after 32 years as NewsChannel 7’s evening anchor—she built a strong legacy on and off the air. Her farewell marks the end of a storied career and the start of her next chapter.  WJHG
  • The Panama City Parrot Head Club will hold its annual Parrot Head Rendezvous event from April 24th to 26th at Sharky’s inside and on the beach in front — the event will raise money for The Arc.  WJHG

CRIME NEWS

  • A Sunnyside Apartment resident recounted chaos after a Tuesday shooting killed two victims—police arrested a suspect previously involved in domestic violence and authorities have not released the victims' names.  WJHG
  • Sunnyside resident Marlowe Elder said Tuesday began normally until a shooting claimed the lives of two women at Sunnyside Apartments—authorities later arrested the suspect’s stepfather in Walton County.  WJHG

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and partner agencies investigated Gulf World Marine Park after concerns over dolphin enclosure sanitation and animal treatment were raised. A search warrant was executed on March 27th after officials received reports of animal welfare issues.  WJHG

SPORTS NEWS

  • Bay County’s Brian Banks, a 43-year-old Air Force Reserve chaplain and Rutherford alum, competed last weekend in Gainesville and finished sixth among men ages 40–44 in the 60m race with a time of 7.29 seconds. He said his focus on nutrition, sleep, and strength training will help him improve his start and continue making Bay County proud.  Panama City News Herald
