- ➤ First Presbyterian Church reopened its sanctuary nearly eight years after Hurricane Michael and will hold its first service in the reconstructed building on Sunday. WJHG

- ➤ Tootsie's Orchid Lounge on Thomas Drive is under construction and will showcase a 36,000 sqft venue with three floors, two stages and a pool. The honky-tonk will host a two-day grand opening on May 1-2. Panama City News Herald
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Florida gas prices fell for 10 days but are expected to jump again this week as renewed tensions with Iran and a U.S. blockade of the Strait of Hormuz push up oil costs — drivers could soon face higher gasoline and diesel prices. Panama City News Herald
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Sixth graders at Surfside Middle School in Panama City Beach experienced a pioneer day lesson on April 7, learning about horse travel, frontier food and pioneer fashion. The event gave students a hands-on look at history led by teacher Steve Grice. Panama City News Herald
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Bay County will host waste amnesty days on Friday, Apr. 17 and Saturday, Apr. 18 from 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Steelfield Landfill on 11411 Landfill Road in West Bay - accepted items include appliances, trash, yard debris and more while proof of residency is required. WJHG
- ➤ The Lyrids meteor shower starts today and will last until April 30, reaching peak activity April 21-22 as Earth passes through Comet Thatcher's debris (producing bright fireballs). Stargazers should look for meteors between midnight and dawn. Panama City News Herald
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Social Security benefits are scheduled this month by birthdate, with checks arriving on April 15 for birthdays between the 11th and 20th, April 22 for those born after the 20th, and April 8 for those born between the 1st and 10th; payments for pre-May 1997 recipients occur on the 3rd. - ➤ Panama City's Panthers beat the Port City Vikings 6-0 on April 13, though the game ended early because of missing referees + scoreboard troubles and lights switching off at 10 p.m. They will host the Georgia Grit on April 18 at Gore Park. Panama City News Herald
