ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • First responders blocked parts of the eastbound lanes on Hathaway Bridge after a car crash occurred shortly before 5 a.m. Tuesday, with smoke seen coming from the vehicle and drivers rerouted through the Port Panama City exit.  My Panhandle

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A local tech company unveiled a Virtual Lifeguard System (VLS) prototype that uses LED beach flags to alert rescue teams when its emergency button is pressed. The company will request $3 million in federal funding to pilot the project and create local jobs while modernizing lifesaving measures on Panama City Beach.  WJHG

CULTURE NEWS

  • April is the month to honor military children and recognize the sacrifices of military families. Crystal Bullock from Bay District Schools spoke on Tuesday morning on NewsChannel 7 about PurpleUP Day and explained how locals can join the celebration.  WJHG

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Callaway Elementary School won a $50,000 grant from Florida Power & Light to transform classrooms into innovative STEM learning spaces—the funds will pay for renovations, technology upgrades and hands-on materials over the next year.  Panama City News Herald
  • Fifty-four health science students presented their semester-long research projects at Gulf Coast State College’s third annual Scholars Day Tuesday—one group will present a bus safety plan designed to help children in Brighton Oaks at an upcoming local committee meeting.  My Panhandle

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Bay County commissioners renewed their annual contract with Turtle Watch—an organization that marks and monitors sea turtle nests—to help protect endangered sea turtles for the upcoming nesting season. Nesting season will begin May 1 and run through October.  My Panhandle

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Panama City Beach leaders and law enforcement are meeting after a violent Spring Break season — they are studying Miami Beach’s marketing model and planning new measures to improve safety and attract the right visitors. Officials ask the public to be patient as research guides changes before Spring Break 2026.  WJHG
  • Bay County voted Tuesday to pass a mutual aid agreement with NSA Panama City—county and base leaders met to review how to extend fire and EMS services to the Navy base.  WJHG
