- ➤ On Saturday, April 19th, Panama City celebrated Earth Day at Oaks by the Bay Park farmers market with live performances, a tree giveaway from the Florida Forest Service, interactive crafts for kids, and environmental vendors. Mayor Michael Rohan read an Earth Day proclamation that urged residents to adopt eco-friendly practices—after Hurricane Michael cut the city’s tree canopy by 80%. WJHG

ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Mexico Beach restoration project is nearing completion—final raking and planting will prepare the shore for summer visitors. Local officials and residents say the work will help maintain a clean beach while urging visitors to stick to marked pathways to protect sea oats. Bay County Coastal
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The dredging project at Carl Gray Park began April 14th to remove sediment buildup from the boat ramp left by Hurricane Sally and will keep one side open as work shifts from the east to the west side until May 15th — the $180,000 project is funded by a FEMA grant with a City match. - ➤ The City has finished design plans for a 1.6-mile concrete sidewalk along West Beach Drive to improve walkability between downtown and St. Andrews but still awaits FDOT and City Commission approval. Once permitting is complete and the project goes to bid, construction will begin quickly with a one-year timeline and an estimated completion in 2026 — key improvements include lane narrowing, tree removal and planting, and installation of 17 Bay Savers.
