- ➤ Crews are building a nearly $1 million multi-use path in King’s Point after residents requested safer walking options; work began in February and is on track to finish by Aug. 4 on East 27th Street. WJHG
- ➤ John Lee Nissan donated $10,000 + school supplies and hygiene items to Girls Inc. of Bay County, helping the nonprofit prepare for its new location and continue serving local girls during its transition. WJHG

- ➤ The College Point brush fires started at noon on Apr. 22 and remain 50% contained, with fire officials monitoring conditions and advising caution in the area. WJHG

- ➤ Tootsie's Orchid Lounge will open on May 1 and 2 in Panama City Beach at 8795 Thomas Drive on the site of the former Spinnaker Beach Club. The 36,000 sqft building offers three floors, two stages and soon a pool with live music from Randy Houser and Riley Duckman. Panama City News Herald

- ➤ Bay District Schools will bring back a free summer meal program for kids and teens (18 and under) from June 3 through Aug. 4 at select schools and community sites across Bay County, offering breakfast and lunch on most weekdays. WJHG
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Two brush fires broke out in College Point on April 21 amid extreme drought conditions, with one covering 3.5 acres and the other 1.5 acres and both 50% contained. The Florida Forest Service reported no evacuations or property damage in the area. Panama City News Herald
- ➤ On April 22, wildfires burned over 20,000 acres and closed roads in Franklin and Levy counties, yet air quality statewide remained good to moderate. Residents, including those near Panama City, are urged to check local updates + drive carefully. Panama City News Herald
- ➤ Ohana Institute students celebrated Earth Day with a 13-mile bike ride on Apr. 22, showing their commitment to sustainability in our community. The event brought together local students in a lively display of environmental awareness. WJHG
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Ascension Sacred Heart Bay is expanding its stroke center, the only one in Bay County to offer Neurothrombectomy procedures, by hiring a stroke navigator to assist in patient follow-ups & educate nurses. The hospital will add more staff as the program grows to improve patient care. WJHG
- ➤ On Tuesday, a new federal grant was announced during a round table in Bonifay to help rural clinics expand care closer to home. Local health organizations may apply for part of the $188 million funding that will support mobile care & telehealth options across the Panhandle. WJHG

- ➤ Two standout athletes from Deane Bozeman High School signed college letters of intent yesterday, April 22, during a celebrated signing day that followed a successful prep season (Mitchell led the defense with 122 tackles and Zrikle concluded his prep career with a .322 batting average).
