  • Bay County Animal Control will hold a spring cleaning event to improve shelter operations — officials will announce more details on the event's time and location soon.  WJHG
  • The 28th Annual Blessing of the Fleet will be held Saturday, May 3rd at St. Andrews Marina—vendors will be available from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with a fish fry starting at 10:00 a.m. and a boat processional followed by a sock burning at 12:00 p.m., all with proceeds benefiting Second Chance of Northwest Florida.  WJHG

  • A Bay County man named Luke Kirkland was charged with murder after deputies said he shot and killed a woman who was visiting his home on Pine Circle in West Bay Wednesday night—he faces charges of first-degree homicide and felon in possession of a firearm.  My Panhandle

CULTURE NEWS

  • Panama City Ballet is holding its casting call for The Nutcracker 2025 and has opened registration for dancers with auditions on August 15—17 and August 22—24. Rehearsals will begin on September 7 and run weekly until December 7—special performances include an invited show on December 11 at 6 p.m., a school show on December 12 at 10 a.m., and public shows from December 12—14.  Bay County Coastal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Rutherford's spring football season began on April 28 when head coach Albert Floyd hired new coordinators Matt Knauss and Javien Elliott—an effort to turn around consecutive 2-8 seasons. The Rams average about 45 players in practice and will travel on May 23 for split games against the Seahawks and FAMU DRS.  Panama City News Herald
