- ➤ Panama City Police are asking for help finding missing 87-year-old Betty Stewart, who was last seen on May 12 in the 900 block of Calhoun Avenue wearing a black shirt (with white designs) and dark blue pants. WJHG
- ➤ A Panama City man was arrested late Saturday after allegedly assaulting a police officer during a traffic stop and leading a multiagency chase through Bay County that ended on Carriage Lane—he now faces multiple felony and misdemeanor charges from the Panama City Police Department, Bay County Sheriff’s Office and Florida Highway Patrol, and no injuries were reported. - ➤ Northside Elementary School’s library was officially renovated with new flooring, paint, furniture, and technology (a $77,000 grant from the St. Joe Foundation enabled the upgrade) to boost literacy, and officials said the modern space will serve as a model for future renovations in the district. - ➤ Bay district schools and Panama City Beach Police are hosting the last Parents Against Predators workshop today at Mosley High School at 5:30 p.m.—Police Chief J.R. Talamantez leads the free session to help parents learn to keep their children safe online and offer free dinner while supplies last. My Panhandle
- ➤ Bay Building Industries Association held a scholarship luncheon at Captain Anderson’s Event Center in Panama City Beach on May 12, awarding $1,000 scholarships to students pursuing construction careers. - ➤ Hundreds of high school seniors in Bay County are set to walk across the stage in ten graduation ceremonies starting this Thursday through the Tuesday after Memorial Day. - ➤ Bay County was mostly unscathed by the severe weather that caused tornadoes in neighboring areas, though Holmes County reported damage to 18 structures and a state of emergency was declared. - ➤ Bay County announced that girls flag football will be a new varsity sport for female student athletes in spring 2026—teams from Arnold, Bay High, Rutherford and Mosley will join the program. The county and Smart Sports Group will host a fall flag football skills combine on Sept. 6th at Tommy Oliver Stadium from 8 a.m. to noon—this event will allow interested players to try out.
