COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Bay County had a busy day on May 15 with trivia nights and live music, and today a spring concert series is set up in Lynn Haven. Upcoming days will bring Jeep jams, a boat and ski tournament, farmers markets and other gatherings at local venues—providing a full week of events in Panama City, Panama City Beach, Lynn Haven and Mexico Beach.  Bay County Coastal
  • For the ninth year, the Panama City CRA and World Changers are partnering to provide free home repair services for local residents beginning in July—volunteers will work on projects in Millville and Glenwood while materials are covered and applications are due by Sunday, June 1.  My Panhandle

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 31-year-old motorcyclist died on May 13 in Callaway when he collided with a mosquito control truck after trying to pass it as it turned left at the intersection of Boat Race Road and Kimbrel Avenue — he was pronounced dead at the scene.  Panama City News Herald

CULTURE NEWS

  • Bayway is launching its Music on the Move program today with local country musician J. Cruz performing on Route Five from 11 a.m. to noon between Gulf Coast State College and the mall — more live acts will be featured at community hubs over the summer.  Panama City News Herald

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On May 15, flags were flown at half-staff statewide to honor peace officers who died or became disabled in the line of duty during Peace Officers Memorial Day—established in 1962 and observed as part of Police Week. Gov. Ron DeSantis directed the measure on May 14 to ensure the tribute lasted from sunrise to sunset.  Panama City News Herald
  • Panama City is asking residents to share ideas for an $80,000 sculpture at the new Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center as feedback will help determine a design for a piece planned to be 10 to 20 feet tall. Residents may submit input at the Glenwood Farmer's Market on May 24 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. or at city hall from May 27 to May 30 — the design will be refined before the center opens this fall.  Panama City News Herald

  • Bozeman High School baseball coach Jeff Patton retired after 20 seasons—he led the Bucks to 18 playoff appearances and 11 district titles and said he wanted to spend more time with his family before teaching for one more year.  Panama City News Herald
  • North Bay Haven defeated Baldwin 6+3 in the Class 2A regional final to secure its first state Final Four berth as freshman pitcher Addison Mallon earned her 22nd win tossing a complete game; the team will await reseeding for a state semifinal on May 20 at Boombah-Soldiers Creek Park. Meanwhile, Arnold lost to Fort Walton Beach 4+3 in extra innings in the Class 4A regional final, ending their season at 19-9.  Panama City News Herald
  • North Bay Haven’s football program got a boost when coach Andy Siegal returned to rebuild the team—bringing in former players and experienced coaches—and they played their spring game on May 15 at Lighthouse Christian Academy in Gulf Breeze while focusing on basic skills and consistency. The team now has 40 high school players, with 23 incoming freshmen sidelined by FHSAA rules, as they work to build long-term success.  Panama City News Herald
