COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Emmaleigh Clegg appeared in the studio today to cover National Safe Boating Week as meteorologists shared safety tips with boaters in Panama City + urging careful navigation on the water.  WJHG

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Rosenwald High held its commencement on May 15 at Tommy Oliver Stadium in Panama City. Graduates earned diplomas as school officials and retired U.S. Army 1st Sgt. Andre Goss guided the ceremony.  Panama City News Herald
  • Students in 12 counties will end school this week, with Madison County finishing May 21 and others letting out through May 29 or in June; there is no school on Memorial Day (May 25) and classes for the 2026-2027 year begin Aug. 10.  Panama City News Herald

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • El Niño is raising upper-level wind shear in the Atlantic, which may reduce tropical storm numbers as hurricane season starts on June 1; however, Florida residents should still prepare since one storm can cause major impacts. NOAA will issue its official forecast on May 21 plus updated outlooks follow.  Panama City News Herald

  • Emerald Coast Behavioral Hospital urges residents to seek help during Mental Health Month if they feel low & battle negative thoughts; therapists stress that even occasional therapy can ease tough days.  WJHG

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Panama City Hurricanes Rugby Club practices every Wednesday at Aaron Bessant Park to build skills and community ties. The club will host a tournament on Aug. 15, giving locals a chance to see competitive rugby and family-like camaraderie.  Panama City News Herald
  • North Bay Haven’s softball team is heading south for upcoming tournaments—its coach outlined a focused agenda that stresses teamwork and strategy. The team will compete at several venues soon.  WJHG
