  • Between May 5th and 9th, Holi Indian Restaurants and Fatboys provided free meals to over 750 teachers and staff from local schools—including Jinks Middle School—in honor of Teacher Appreciation Week.  Bay County Coastal
  • The Bay County NAACP Youth Council in partnership with Youth Alliance Matters FDN & Panama City Parks, Culture and Recreation will host the free Summer Youth Explosion on Saturday, June 7 from noon to 4 p.m. at Daffin Park Clubhouse at 320 Kraft Ave to offer face painting, a live DJ, games, food, drinks and water activities for children and families.  Bay County Coastal
  • Will Rose from Bay County Animal Control brought in Sprite for this week’s Shelter Spotlight. Sprite (a 5-month-old German Shepherd mix) is fixed and available for adoption today, and families with other dogs are advised to bring their pets for a meet and greet as she is expected to gain only an extra 20 pounds.  WJHG
  • Community members unveiled the second ADA accessible beach access at 7817 Surf Drive yesterday, featuring a renovated boardwalk ramp & railing and a mobility mat on the sand. The access was named for Sunny Peek, a little girl with congenital muscular dystrophy whose second birthday was celebrated during the event funded by ARPA and Bay County’s general fund.  My Panhandle

CRIME NEWS

  • On May 10, 2025, Bay County Sheriff’s Office responded to a stabbing on Joan Avenue in Panama City Beach when a man stabbed a victim during an attempted armed robbery over a Bluetooth speaker and stole his bicycle, and investigators later identified the suspect as Holden Devon Branch, 31, who was arrested on May 12 and charged with Armed Robbery, Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon, and Possession of Methamphetamine — he was also found with methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.  Bay County Coastal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A two-hour class to learn how to write song lyrics will be held at Catalyst Church from 10 a.m. till noon for $20 where Michael R. J. Roth helps students learn tips and gives feedback on their work. The course meets student requests — welcoming writers of all levels.  Bay County Coastal
  • Deane Bozeman School held its graduation ceremony at Tommy Oliver Stadium in Panama City on May 20, where graduates celebrated with family and friends and senior class president Karlee McLean and principal Ivan Beach spoke. The event honored achievements (with one student, Landen Daigle, now in the hospital battling leukemia) in a true display of community pride.  Panama City News Herald

  • On Tuesday—nearly 4,000 Bay County residents cast ballots in runoff elections in Panama City and Lynn Haven where Robbie Hughes and Judy Tinder won the city commissioner races with about 51% of the vote.  Panama City News Herald
