CRIME NEWS

  • Jeffrey Andrew Schuller of Panama City pleaded no contest to second-degree murder and was sentenced to 45 years in prison for the July 12, 2023 killing of Dawn Kristen Langford on Firetower Road in Washington County.  Panama City News Herald

  • The Forgotten Coast Sea Turtle Festival will be held Sunday at George Core Park — a fun event that invites local families to enjoy sea turtle themed activities.  WJHG

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Panama City crayfish, a small white-striped crawdad found only in Bay County, was federally listed as endangered in 2022 due to habitat loss from development. Conservation efforts—such as setting aside protected land and designating critical habitat—are underway to safeguard its numbers and the local ecosystem.  Panama City News Herald
  • Yesterday, NOAA live-streamed its forecast for the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season at 11 a.m. ET and predicted an above-average season with several strong tropical storms—echoing earlier predictions from AccuWeather and Colorado State University. HEALTH NEWS

  • PennRose Farms recalled 1,152 cases of cucumbers sold in a 5-pound mesh bag repackaged with logos after Fresh Start Produce Sales alerted them that these may have been supplied by Bedner Growers amid a salmonella outbreak that sickened 26 people in 15 states. The FDA issued the notice on May 22 and advised consumers to throw out the produce — businesses were told to halt sales and notify customers.  Panama City News Herald

  • Niceville beat St. Thomas Aquinas 7-2 on Thursday (with sophomore pitcher Chloe Bailey striking out 11 batters in a complete game) to advance to the state championship game. The Lady Eagles will face the winner of North Fort Myers and Winter Springs in the title game on Saturday at 10 a.m.  Panama City News Herald
  • Fort Walton Beach’s Lady Vikings beat Eau Gallie 9-4 in the Class 4A state semifinal to secure their first spot in the state championship game and will face American Heritage today at 5:30 p.m.—the win set the stage for a historic title game.  Panama City News Herald
