  • On Wednesday, Cortney Turner from the Lynn Haven Animal Shelter joined a live studio event with sweet kitty Hazel — a social tabby kitten with a bit of calico markings. Hazel is spayed and had her rabies shot — making her ready for adoption after one of the station's producers adopted a kitten from her litter.  WJHG
  • Lt. James Dinse from the Panama City Beach Police Department advised Gulf Coast Jam festival-goers to check social media for weather evacuation updates and to stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, and use a buddy system+ PCBPD officers will be on site to manage traffic amid the expected large crowds.  WJHG

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Starting in June, Delta will offer new nonstop Saturday flights that include routes from Detroit to Pensacola and Destin-Fort Walton Beach—with service running until Sept. 25—and will also boost Florida flights from Austin to Panama City, Jacksonville, and Tampa, with additional service from Panama City to New York beginning Nov. 6.  Panama City News Herald

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Senator Jay Trumbull said Wednesday that a fifth dolphin died at Gulf World Marine Park and his office has been in contact with USDA and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to address what he calls a disturbing pattern. The park will remain closed until it reopens on June 3 — no reason was given for the closure.  WJHG
  • Warrior Memorial Reefs Foundation will host its inaugural lionfish tournament to raise funds for its conservation mission and combat the invasive lionfish that threaten Gulf Coast waters—officials say the event will support ongoing efforts to protect local marine life.  WJHG

  • On May 28th, Panama City held an inauguration at City Hall where Mayor Allan Branch, Commissioner Robbie Hughes, and Commissioner Josh Street took their oaths administered by Chief Judge Christopher N. Patterson — the ceremony featured an invocation by Reverend Robert S. Hayes, a Pledge of Allegiance led by Chief David Collier, and a performance of 'America the Beautiful' by Kate Alderman.  City of Panama City

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Florida Department of Health in Bay County tested water at three parks on May 27 and found Enterococcus levels above safety guidelines—Carl Gray Park on Collegiate Drive, Beach Drive on US-98 West Beach Drive, and Earl Gilbert Park in Parker. Officials advise against any water activities until bacteria levels drop below recommended standards.  My Panhandle
