Good morning, Panama City. Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 26th of June.

CRIME NEWS

  • A Panama City man, 41-year-old Markus Shadree Faggart, was sentenced on Wednesday to 15 years in prison after pleading no contest to attempted second degree murder when he repeatedly stabbed a 62-year-old man on his front porch and the victim ran to a neighbor’s home; because Faggart had a prior armed robbery conviction and was classified as a prison release reoffender, he will serve every day of his sentence.  My Panhandle

EDUCATION NEWS

  • FSU Panama City is set to welcome more students this fall after receiving over $100,000 from the St. Joe Foundation; nearly three-quarters of the donation will boost its early childhood autism clinic and scholarship program that benefits over 40 local families. The Collegiate School will use about $40,000 to furnish a facility for high schoolers taking college courses full-time + both programs will share space in the school’s technology building.  My Panhandle

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Purple martins from the Amazon are nesting in Panama City parks, with a Garden Club site housing 43 hatchlings — birds that hunt flying insects until August — as locals support the migration. City officials plan more nest setups next season — urging residents to build their own martin homes — to help the birds return yearly.  WJHG

HEALTH NEWS

  • A water quality advisory was issued after tests found high levels of Enterococcus bacteria in Carl Gray Park and Earl Gilbert Park following recent rain, and many residents swam without knowing the risk. Health officials will retest the water next week—depending on the results, they may keep or lift the advisory.  WJHG
