- ➤ Bay County Sheriff Tommy Ford announced on June 27 that his Cold Case Unit identified skeletal remains found in 1980 as Carol Sue Skidmore, who went missing in 1977 during a family trip from Sealy and was later believed to have been killed by her husband with her case turned over to the State Attorney’s Office for review—her family has now been contacted for closure. - ➤ Authorities responded on the 4th of July after a 911 call in Freeport and found that 43-year-old Randall Stewart from Panama City kneeed an eight-week pregnant woman near County Highway 3280 and Smokehouse Lake Road before fleeing with his vehicle keys + he now faces aggravated battery charges and has outstanding warrants from Bay County and Texas. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Bay District Schools earned 62 points in the 2024-2025 academic year — just below an A rating — and marked the first year in 17 years with no school scoring a D or F. Superintendent Mark McQueen said improvements in reading, science, and social studies led to 14 schools earning an A, 11 a B, and 15 a C. My Panhandle

- ➤ The city installed a worn U.S. Flag Drop Box at City Hall in the Grace Avenue lobby today so residents can drop off faded flags during normal business hours. The drop box—donated by local citizen Kaial Hajik—is managed by the Paul W. Airey American Legion Post 392, which will empty it when full to conduct formal flag retirement ceremonies.
