- ➤ Cortney Michaud (from Lynn Haven Animal Shelter) introduced Jet, a 3-month-old stray kitten with jet black fur who has been neutered and is up to date on shots (the shelter expects him to grow large). WJHG
- ➤ The Panama City Parrot Head Club presented the proceeds from its Rendezvous event to The Ark on July 9. WJHG
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Calvin Eugene Williams, 25, of Panama City was indicted for trafficking methamphetamine and fentanyl on charges from April 2024 and March 2025 — he now faces up to life imprisonment if convicted. WJHG
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Officer Chase Shankle followed the wisdom of his grandfather, a former police chief from Tennessee, to overcome multiple rejections and join the Panama City Beach Police Department nine years after his granddad passed. He now leads the K–9 unit and is writing a book to share the lessons on turning failure into growth. WJHG
- ➤ The Bay County Tourist Development Council approved a reimbursement of $25,500+ meant to cover overtime and equipment costs for the Bay County Sheriff’s Office today as tourist numbers increase at the beach. Officials said the funds+ granted under state law will be used to boost public safety during busy weekends. WJHG
- ➤ Panama City's local government will change its meeting schedule—holding the mayor's town hall meeting every month except December on Saturday at 8 a.m. starting this coming Saturday and moving the commission's last meeting to 5:30 p.m.—and will host virtual workshops at 5:30 p.m. every first and third Monday to improve community input. - ➤ Today at 8 a.m., over 100 jet boats set sail at the Panama City Marina for JetSet2025, the largest jet boat gathering in the nation.
