  • A new full-sized basketball court is being built at Bayou George Athletic Complex to replace an outdated one and give local residents a better space for sports. The park will also get a new playground, shaded pavilion, and parking lot upgrades and is expected to be finished by the end of August + these improvements offer a safer spot for community play.  WJHG

  • Southeastern Surveying and Mapping Corp. merged with SCR Surveying and Mapping, Inc. to combine SCR's four-decade local expertise (founded in 1983 by Skip and Brenda Rutherford) with SSMC’s statewide resources. CRIME NEWS

  • On July 8th, the Bay County Sheriff’s Office arrested civilian employee Daydrain Lipford after a baggie with .4 grams of methamphetamine was found in a jail hallway and turned in by another employee—Lipford admitted the meth was for personal use, which led to his termination and a charge for introducing contraband.  WJHG
  • 41-year-old Branden Gywayne Givens was sentenced to 30 years in prison after Bay County deputies discovered 82 grams of fentanyl and over 1,000 grams of methamphetamine during a vehicle stop last year, with his fingerprints on the evidence—though his attorney disputed when they were placed.  My Panhandle

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The City of Panama City has launched its annual 'Back to School' supply drive that runs from July 14 to August 6—community members and City Hall staff can drop off needed supplies at the rotunda from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays to support Bay District School students and teachers.  My Panhandle

  • Bay County TPO and the Emerald Coast Regional Council announced a new effort to update the Pedestrian, Bicycle and Trail Master Plan aimed at boosting safety and connectivity across Bay County — residents are invited to share feedback via an online survey and social media updates.  Bay County Coastal
