- ➤ Jazzy (an adoptable pet) was featured by Bay County Animal Shelter in its shelter spotlight series to help local residents learn about pet adoption. The shelter will continue to highlight more animals (its new features aim to connect pets with caring homes) in the coming weeks. WJHG
- ➤ On Tuesday at Daffin Park, Panama City hosted its annual Back to School Giveaway as the Boys and Girls Club distributed 500 book bags filled with school supplies while United Way organized a sports equipment drop + Pancare provided free health screenings; officials said extra items remained available on the Park’s Rec and Culture website. - ➤ On July 30, the Man in the Sea Museum announced it will offer free admission for children and educators for August (a back-to-school special) (available for the entire month). WJHG
- ➤ The Historic St. Andrews Waterfront Partnership was founded in 1997 to revitalize Panama City's historic waterfront, and the city purchased and restored the old Panama City Publishing Company building (c. 1920), reopening it as a museum in 2008. The building was listed on the National Register in 2021, and today the museum is maintained by the city and managed by the Partnership (helping preserve local history). Bay County Coastal

- ➤ USDA inspections in March and June report that Gulf World Marine Park has faced broken equipment, nonworking pumps and filters, and unsafe water temperatures since 2024—staff reports noted cracked walls and insufficient veterinary care. Following these findings, all dolphins were relocated and the park closed to the public, and the facility is now for sale. WJHG

- ➤ Florida has updated its learner permit rules for teens aged 15-17 by requiring them to complete a 4-hour DATA course, pass a permit test, and provide parental consent before taking a new 6-hour driver education course and logging 50 hours of driving practice including 10 hours at night. For the first three months, teens may drive only during daylight hours, and after that they can drive until 10 p.m. while holding the permit for at least one year & officials say the changes aim to reduce crash risks. - ➤ Panama City approved a $30M Glenwood Town Center project at MLK Boulevard & East 15th Street to help end a food desert. The plan will build apartments, townhomes and a grocery store; the developer has six months to submit a buildable site plan & work is expected to take six to seven years. My Panhandle
