  • Carousel Grocery, a family business in Laguna Beach, marks 58 years as it remains a key source for local groceries. Founded in 1967 by Ann and Charlie Lahan, the store overcame past challenges like hurricanes and a cyberattack (which disrupted deliveries) while continuing to serve loyal customers.  WJHG

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Onyx Partners Ltd. will purchase 119 JCPenney stores for $947 million — including the Pier Park location in Panama City Beach, and all stores remain open as the deal will close on Sept. 8 with proceeds going to JCPenney creditors.  Panama City News Herald

CRIME NEWS

  • A man from Wewahitchka pleaded guilty to firearm charges after TSA flagged his bag for carrying an undeclared firearm and a box of 50 rounds while he was getting ready to board a commercial flight in Panama City — he is set to be sentenced on September 18.  WJHG

EDUCATION NEWS

  • PCB Market will host its Teacher School Supply Drive on Saturday, August 2 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, August 3 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.—local teachers can also enter an exclusive raffle for one of three prize packages while supplies are donated to one elementary, one middle, and one high school.  WJHG

  • On June 4th, Tyndall AFB marked a key milestone in its hurricane recovery when deputy base civil engineer Brian Stahl and Lt. Col. Allen Lewis signed acceptance documents for the $47 million Tyndall Marina project—adding a resilient recreation space to the base.  Bay County Coastal

HEALTH NEWS

  • During a heat wave affecting 66 counties, University of Florida experts say women should drink about 11 cups and men 15 cups of water each day, with the right amount based on body weight (for example, a 150-pound person might need about 10 cups). They noted that water comes from both drinks and foods and advised using a marked bottle to track daily intake.  Panama City News Herald
