  • Bay County will host a range of fall events including concerts, festivals, and a career fair at Florida State University Panama City. The schedule features Backstage Pass concerts, Oktoberfest in Panama City and Panama City Beach, the Pirates of the High Seas & Renaissance Fest, and more — events set to take place from September through November.  Panama City News Herald

CRIME NEWS

  • Casey Rattan, a Panama City Beach man, received a 15-year sentence for a fatal crash on Front Beach Road that killed Thomas Lyon (28) on August 2, 2024 when Lyon pushed his children and nephew to safety, and Rattan's license was revoked for life along with a $7,500 restitution order.  My Panhandle

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At Lynn Haven Elementary, the library is getting a full media center makeover with new floors, paint, lighting, and $40,000 in modern furniture—approved by assistant principal Stefanie Bohannon after noticing outdated features; the upgrades will be complete in the first quarter of the school year.  WJHG
  • On Thursday, August 14, over 200 students from FSU PC and Gulf Coast State College moved into Seminole Landing at FSU PC, starting a move-in day with a Seminole Beach Party from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.—the event featured live music, food trucks, and week-long activities including a SCUBA diving class in the pool.  WJHG

  • A Panama City Beach woman saw her home security camera record a large black bear walking through her driveway near Scott Field Park early Thursday morning—she later witnessed the bear foraging in several neighborhood trash cans.  My Panhandle
