CRIME NEWS

  • Panama City police arrested 17-year-old Mason Peters and 18-year-old Derrick Williams after construction crews found on Thursday that vandals broke into the new Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Recreation Center through an unlocked door and spray-painted three walls—authorities said the suspects admitted the break-in and vandalism with Peters also facing a meth possession charge.  WJHG
  • Attorneys for Kayle Bates appealed on Thursday to the U.S. Supreme Court to stop his execution scheduled for next Tuesday—after the Florida Supreme Court dismissed his claims of organic brain damage and misleading jury instructions in the 1982 murder of Janet Renee White in Bay County.  My Panhandle
  • Amber Rae Grant, 39, pled guilty to manslaughter and was sentenced to 15 years in prison for selling fentanyl that caused a fatal overdose of a Chipley woman, with evidence showing the exchange took place in the Callaway area and a search of her home uncovered additional drugs — including methamphetamine and oxycodone pills.  My Panhandle

  • At the Lynn Haven Commission meeting on August 12, residents criticized the city’s leadership and finances, calling for a forensic audit amid concerns over past management decisions. The commission approved measures including a $980,000 fire engine purchase, an amendment for stormwater drainage improvements and discounted legal support for the fire union—steps aimed at addressing the budget woes.  Bay County Coastal
  • FDOT has issued traffic advisories for Bay County that will cause lane closures and detours on U.S.98, State Road 390, and S.R.392A starting Aug. 17th due to construction work, with some projects continuing until Aug. 25th—drivers should expect delays and plan alternate routes.  Panama City News Herald
