ECONOMY NEWS

  • On Friday at the Bay County Chamber First Friday meeting, community leaders met the owners of three major companies— IAG Aero Group, Oxford Technologies and Global Impact Products—who will invest $138 million in Bay County and create over 750 jobs. IAG Aero Group will build a maintenance facility with North America's largest jet engine test cell at the airport while Global Impact Products converts a waste-to-energy facility for hurricane-impact windows and Oxford Technologies operates from a local industrial park.  My Panhandle

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Florida Department of Education and Volunteer Florida are inviting students to join the 2025 Hispanic Heritage Month art contest for Kindergarten to third grade and essay contest for grades 4 to 12. Entries must be submitted by 5 p.m. ET on September 24th and winners will earn a $100 gift card, a park pass, or a two-year scholarship—celebrating Florida’s Hispanic heritage.  My Panhandle
  • On Sept. 5, Cedar Grove Elementary at 2826 15th St. earned the highest score among 15 VPK programs recognized by the Florida Department of Education for the 2024–2025 program year under the leadership of Crystal Boyette—Principal at the school.   • Cedar Grove Elementary School earned the top Voluntary Prekindergarten state score in the Early Learning Coalition of Northwest Florida service area for the 2024 to 2025 program year (one of 15 programs recognized as Excellent by the Florida Department of Education) and was celebrated on Sept. 5.  Panama City News Herald

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has paused scalloping in St. Joseph Bay—this action was taken after toxin-producing algae was found, and the closure stretches from the Mexico Beach canal to St. Vincent Island. Officials said scalloping will reopen once daily water tests show safe conditions.  WJHG

  • The Bay County Sheriff’s Office announced on Friday that a victim notification system will launch Monday—this system will provide near real-time updates about every step from the initial 911 call through the criminal justice process using VINE and Versaterm CommunityConnect.  My Panhandle
