COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Helping Hearts of Florida will host a free Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance event on October 4 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Pavilion at Papa Joe’s Bayside—bringing together parents, families, friends and health care providers to honor their babies with moments of silence, a symbolic walk and other supportive activities.  My Panhandle
  • Local WWII veteran celebrated his 100th birthday on Sunday — family and friends gathered at his home to honor his milestone.  WJHG
  • Bay County Animal Control will extend its Fall in Love adoption event until Sept. 13 in Panama City. The shelter has placed 15 cats and 18 dogs in homes, though 30 dogs and eight cats remain available—adoption fees are $10 each.  Panama City News Herald

  • Lynn Haven’s Kaleidoscope Theatre announced that auditions for Disney’s Descendants will be held on September 13th and 14th at 2:00 p.m. The theatre is also seeking creative volunteers to work on stage and behind the scenes—providing new roles for talent and teamwork.  Panama City News Herald

  • Florida began its first-ever Hunting, Fishing and Camping Sales Tax Holiday Monday—offering discounts on outdoor gear such as tents, sleeping bags, rods, and ammunition while including special deals at shooting ranges and a discounted five-year Gold Sportsman License.  WJHG

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Cedar Grove Elementary was rated 'Excellent' for its VPK program on September 8—one of five Bay District Schools with this top ranking while seven achieved Above Expectations, marking strong early education in the district.  WJHG
  • GCSC will host the Bay County College Fair to connect local students with dozens of colleges—this event is part of a 2025 series designed to offer enrollment opportunities.  WJHG

HEALTH NEWS

  • During National Suicide Prevention Month, United Hands therapist Crystal Jones works in schools, homes, and her office to help prevent suicide as she noted that suicide is the second leading cause of death for kids ages 10 to 14—urging adults to ask caring questions and act quickly when they see signs of depression and online bullying.  WJHG
