- ➤ WJHG, Manuel and Thompson Attorneys at Law—along with community partners—have launched the 32nd Annual Coats for Kids campaign and are accepting new winter coat donations at drop-off sites through November 14 to help students stay warm. WJHG
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A controlled burn got out of control on Wednesday along Highway 79 and sparked a 50-acre fire that forced road closures and evacuations while local teams worked overnight to cool hot spots and bring the blaze to 95% containment — officials said drivers should remain cautious as smoke settled. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Pine Holler Farms will open its gates tomorrow at 10 a.m. at 17827 NW CR 287, Clarksville for its 1st Annual Pumpkin Festival with a ribbon cutting at noon and many family activities — including hayrides, a giant jump pad, and more — while tickets cost $10 and kids under two get in for free as the farm runs on weekends until early November. - ➤ Bay District Schools said yesterday that nine employees are being investigated for social media posts about Charlie Kirk’s death—details remain limited. The district added the inquiry may be referred to the Department of Education Office of Professional Practices to review the employees’ teaching certificates—further action is pending. WJHG
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Yesterday, the Panama City Police Department held a free senior safety class to teach seniors how to recognize scams online and at home — officers plan to hold a similar session soon to further prevent financial fraud. WJHG
- ➤ County officials report that staffing was rearranged from Bear Creek and Sand Hills stations as they will add at least 10 fire-rescue positions starting in October to ensure 14 ambulances are manned daily by the end of next year. This move is meant to lessen pulling staff from rural areas—where response times can exceed 20 minutes. My Panhandle
- ➤ Bay County put a burn ban in place on May 6th due to dry conditions under County Ordinance 25-16 that stops open burning, fireworks, burning lawn debris or trash, improper disposal of matches or cigarettes, and any outdoor activity that could spark a fire—charcoal or gas grills are allowed—and violators may face fines up to $500 or up to 60 days in jail. - ➤ HCA Florida Gulf Coast Hospital in Panama City has a volunteer NICU cuddle program that helps premature babies develop through gentle touch and reading. Volunteers, parents and donors support the program by spending time holding tiny infants — a method that comforts and nurtures the babies. WJHG

- ➤ Arnold High football coach Jason Griffin returns to the sideline today after his suspension was reduced from six games to three following an alleged recruiting violation—he will coach against Blountstown at 7 p.m. Panama City News Herald
