COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Panama City officials proclaimed September as National Recovery Month on Wednesday morning, while demolition crews began taking down Foghorn’s on Thomas Drive and Jackson County commissioners questioned county attorney Michelle Jordan's fee proposals; an auction is set for the illegally dumped Zoo World airplane fuselage in Springfield and the remains of missing Marine veteran Brent Valona were found in Point Washington State Forest after his March hike.  My Panhandle
  • The League of Women Voters of Bay County in partnership with the Bay County Chamber of Commerce will host a community forum on September 29 at Gulf Coast State College’s Charles Hilton Technology Center (3rd Floor) from 6:00 to 8:00 PM to discuss federal debt and fiscal policies. The event, presented by The Concord Coalition, is free and open to the public but requires an RSVP.  WKGC Public Radio

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Forecasters say Tropical Storm Humberto is expected to become a hurricane later this weekend while Invest 94L may develop into a tropical depression near the Bahamas. The Fujiwhara effect makes it hard to predict their paths—Florida residents should stay alert for changing weather conditions.  Panama City News Herald

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Panama City Beach city council passed ordinance 1667 today to set special rules for busy periods like spring break and the 4th of July. The new rule establishes a curfew for unaccompanied minors, tighter controls on bars and clubs, rental requirements, and the CARES program—measures designed to boost public safety during high-impact times.  My Panhandle
  • Panama City commissioners have scheduled three public workshops in October, November, and December to gather public input on rebuilding the Downtown Marina uplands—PFM will complete two independent studies to evaluate wet slip profitability and upland uses before any plans are approved under a public-private partnership with City Marina Partners investing over $50 million.  My Panhandle
  • Bayway Transit is planning a major bus service enhancement by shifting routes one and two from fixed-route to microtransit that extends its Flex program and will launch mid-October in Lynn Haven and Panama City. It will hold public workshops on October 1 at Panama City City Hall (11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.) and Lynn Haven City Hall (1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.) to gather community feedback.  My Panhandle

HEALTH NEWS

  • A Women's Health Fair will be held on October 3 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Intersection's Events Center in Lynn Haven (free mammograms and screenings will be offered) to help women fight breast cancer during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  WJHG

SPORTS NEWS

  • Bay County high school football games are set for Thursday and Friday nights in Week 6 while live scores and updates will be posted on the dedicated page — fans at games are encouraged to report scores and many games can be streamed on the NFHS Network.  Panama City News Herald
