- ➤ Tanya Standifer was named this week’s Golden Apple Award winner—an honor recognizing her notable contributions in the community—after the committee presented the award on September 26th. WJHG
- ➤ Panama City Fire Department will host their annual open house at Fire Station 2—2003 Beck Avenue—on October 3rd from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. The free event will include a live fire demonstration, food and drinks, a bounce house and a kids’ agility course to help residents learn about local first responders. - ➤ Gulf Coast State College will host National Night Out on October 7th from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. — the event will include free food, family-friendly activities, and a chance to meet local law enforcement and emergency services to build stronger community ties. Bay County Coastal

- ➤ Kaleidoscope Theatre will open its 51st season with She Kills Monsters by Qui Nguyen on October 3rd at 7:30 p.m. at their Lynn Haven venue—this comedic play blends fantasy role-playing adventures with heartfelt moments and runs through October 12th. Bay County Coastal
- ➤ In October, the Center for the Arts in Panama City will host Halloween events such as an opening reception for The Art of Frankenstein on October 3rd from 5 to 7 p.m. The program features an art market on Saturday from 4 to 8 p.m., a free tour of Dr. Frankenstein’s laboratory at Higby Gallery, a haunted walking tour on October 24th and 25th, and an exhibition by Paige Undieme running through November 1st—delivering a range of spooky experiences. - ➤ Hurricane Humberto has strengthened into the season's third hurricane and is forecast to become a Category 4 storm by this weekend—forecasters say the Fujiwhara effect with Invest 94L has made its track uncertain. - ➤ Panama City Police Department is hosting a free car seat checkup today from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Dunkin’ Donuts on West 23rd Street to help parents ensure proper installation—trained officers will provide safety tips and free refreshments. My Panhandle
- ➤ USA TODAY Network has launched a text message service that will provide weather updates and connect residents with local resources during hurricane season in Florida. Residents can sign up by texting Hello to 239-241-6343 + emergency calls should go to 911. Panama City News Herald
- ➤ Panama City passed Ordinance No. 3271, which sets new parking rules for motor vehicles and golf carts with fines from $20 to $250 that will be enforced starting October 1. The Panama City Police Department issued warnings during September in busy areas — the grace period used to educate drivers will end soon, and vehicles with three or more violations may be booted or towed.
