COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ First Commerce Credit Union and the Ascension Sacred Heart Foundation are hosting the sixth annual Flamingo Challenge to support local women battling breast cancer in Bay County—donors receive pink flamingos to display as funds help cover treatment and living expenses. WJHG
- ➤ The Panama City Fire Department is hosting its annual Open House today from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The free event lets community members tour equipment and learn about fire safety — a chance to support local service. WJHG
- ➤ Gus Butchikas, longtime owner of Angelo’s Steak Pit, died on Sept 21 at Lisenby Hospital and was known for his signature recipes and community service. Funeral services were held Oct 2 at 1 p.m. at Kent-Forest Funeral Home—family gathered before his interment at Evergreen Cemetery. Panama City News Herald
- ➤ Bay County will hold a fall concert series starting Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Isaac Byrd Park — the event will feature food trucks and live music to bring the community together. WJHG
- ➤ Bay Radiology Women’s Imaging Center—helped by NewsChannel 7—is hosting the first Pace for Pink Walk to bring back a community breast cancer awareness event after the local Making Strides walk was ended last year. The free walk will take place on Saturday, October 11 at Kinsaul Park in Lynn Haven, inviting community members to join the effort. WJHG

- ➤ The Panama City Music Association announced that season passes for the 2025–26 season—which include access to all shows, priority seating, and VIP event invites—are now on sale by calling 850-236-1260. My Panhandle
- ➤ The Central Panhandle Fair opened on September 30 and will run until October 4, offering food, rides and games for all ages. Gates open at 4 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday and entry costs $15 cash or a $35 wristband for unlimited rides—fried Oreos and corn dogs add to the tradition. WJHG

- ➤ Hurricane Imelda is causing rough surf and strong rip currents in Florida until the end of the week—making beach conditions dangerous for swimmers. Forecasters are tracking two tropical disturbances, one off South Florida and a tropical wave from Africa that may form low pressure on October 4 before moving into the Gulf. Panama City News Herald
- ➤ On October 4th, 1995, Hurricane Opal hit Bay County as a Category 3 storm that brought a dangerous Category 5 storm surge and widespread damage to neighborhoods and roads — emergency crews quickly evacuated residents and later assessed the lasting impact. WJHG
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ City leaders passed ordinance 3271 to add 27 parking violations that police began enforcing on October 1—these rules charge fines from $20 to $250 for infractions like parking near fire hydrants and other safety issues and may lead to booting or towing for repeat offenses. WJHG

- ➤ Winn-Dixie is running a breast cancer donation drive from October 1 to 28 that lets Bay County shoppers donate $1, $5 or round up their bill to benefit the American Cancer Society. The program supports research and patient care & boosts community health. Bay County Coastal
