COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Salvation Army is hosting the 'Strike Out' Domestic Violence Bowling Tournament on Oct. 18 at 810 Entertainment from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.—all funds support a program that helps domestic violence victims and their children. Teams of up to eight players cost $200 and the event will feature raffles, prizes, and food.  My Panhandle
  • On October 20th at 2:00 p.m., the City will host a dedication ceremony at Oaks by the Bay Park to mark the seven-year anniversary of Hurricane Michael — the event will celebrate community recovery with the planting of a new southern live oak called New Sentry. Organized with the Panama City Community Redevelopment Agency, the ceremony will invite the public to witness this living monument.  Bay County Coastal

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Aspiring developers and local entrepreneurs will join a small-scale development workshop hosted by the Incremental Development Alliance on November 14th from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Glenwood Community Center — where they will learn how to spot good sites, follow building rules, and plan for projects.  Bay County Coastal

  • The Historical Society of Bay County is seeking museum volunteers to help care for exhibits and support upcoming events—these opportunities let local community members engage in preserving our shared history.  WJHG
  • Samantha Graham was named this week’s Golden Apple Award winner—her honor recognizes her outstanding contributions to the local community.  WJHG
  • Juan Martinez, owner of Juan Taco, demonstrated how to make classic tacos and Banana-Nutella quesadillas on NewsChannel 7 Today to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. Juan Taco — located at Laketown Wharf in Panama City Beach — is open daily from 11 A.M. to 7 P.M.  WJHG

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Today, the National Hurricane Center is tracking two tropical disturbances, with one expected to cross Florida this weekend and bring heavy rain + dangerous surf, and officials advise residents to monitor updates + prepare for changing conditions.  Panama City News Herald

HEALTH NEWS

  • During October's Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Dr. Lindsey Weintritt-Davis from Bay Radiology Women’s Imaging Center said that screening mammograms can help find small cancers early so doctors may offer better treatment options before signs appear.  WJHG
  • Intersections Events hosted a women’s health fair in Bay County today to provide breast cancer awareness and support through local vendors + HCA Florida Gulf Coast is offering discounted mammograms for uninsured women. Local survivors and community leaders joined the event to gain resources and feel empowered in their fight against cancer.  WJHG
  • Women of all ages gathered for the 2025 Women’s Health Fair in Lynn Haven Friday where more than 30 vendors provided resources and support for medical, emotional, and mental health. Faith Mascato of Intersections Events said the fair—held at her newly opened event center—empowered women to focus on their own care.  My Panhandle

  • Freeport High School freshman Athiei Dhal was spotlighted after his team's match with North Bay Haven on October 2nd in Panama City — his 6'9" height makes him the tallest volleyball player in the country. His strong performance has drawn attention from local fans as he continues to compete on the court.  Panama City News Herald
