- ➤ Bay County Animal Control invites local residents to adopt one of 44 pets for $10 during the Adopt-a-Boo event this October — the fee covers spay and neuter surgery, microchipping, and vaccinations — to help ease shelter crowding. WJHG
- ➤ PCB Market gave a check to nonprofit Fore Her — an organization that raises funds for breast cancer patients undergoing treatment and facing financial need in Northwest Florida. WJHG
- ➤ On October 10th, Panama City residents viewed a video collection—showing personal accounts of devastation and resilience—as they marked 7 years since Hurricane Michael struck in 2018. WJHG
- ➤ Bay County Animal Control is hosting an adopt-a-boo event during October to lower adoption fees from $25 to $10 (which includes spaying/neutering, micro-chipping, and vaccinations) to encourage pet adoptions. The shelter currently houses over 20 dogs and about a dozen cats and is open daily except Wednesdays and Sundays. My Panhandle
- ➤ The Global War on Terror Wall of Remembrance honors the names of over 11,000 service members and victims on a 120-foot wall that arrived last Friday at the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 2185 in Panama City. The wall will remain open for visitors from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. until Monday (visitors who served with a victim can place a quarter by the marked name). My Panhandle
- ➤ VFW Post 8205 in Parker will host its annual Trunk or Treat event on October 31 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.—children and families are invited to enjoy candy, snacks, and free food in a safe, festive atmosphere. - ➤ Today marks seven years since Hurricane Michael struck Mexico Beach, leaving many homes and landmarks damaged. The town has rebuilt key sites including the El Governor Resort — its strong structure helped save it during the storm — and residents continue to honor the community support that followed the disaster. - ➤ FSU Panama City will host a free Click with Caution workshop at the Holley Academic Center from 4 to 6 p.m. on Nov. 5 — Panama City Beach Police Chief JR Talamantez will lead a seminar to teach how to spot online predators and report suspicious activity. Panama City News Herald
- ➤ Haney Technical College launched a Marine Electrician Apprenticeship program with Eastern Shipbuilding Group in Bay County to train skilled laborers, and students must be at least 18 and work full-time—gaining hands-on experience with certified electricians during a three-year course that includes 144 hours of classroom instruction. - ➤ The Florida Department of Health in Bay County advised caution near Mexico Beach after a water sample taken on October 7th showed red tide — which can cause skin irritation, rashes and burning eyes — and urged residents and visitors to avoid contact with the affected water. WJHG
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ North Bay Haven and Mosley earned No. 1 seeds after winning all their district games when the high school volleyball season ended.
