- ➤ A traveling memorial honoring those lost in the war on terror is on display at VFW Post 2185 in Panama City this week—the 120-foot wall bears the names of over 10,000 people including civilians, first responders, police, and military. Alex Butler said the memorial also pays tribute to a new generation of veterans with a personal nod to his friend Eric Sufree. WJHG
- ➤ GCSC will host its annual Fall Festival on Friday, October 24 featuring family-friendly entertainment—decorated vehicles for Trunk-or-Treat, food, games, and prizes—for local residents. WJHG
- ➤ NWF Health Network reported that in the past year, 258 children were waiting for adoption and 1673 were placed in foster care in northwest Florida. Local agencies are seeking more foster parents to help meet the growing need. WJHG

- ➤ FSU Panama City will host a Lunch and Learn event on Oct. 15 for entrepreneurship featuring former ABC News president Kim Godwin — the first woman and person of color to hold that role. - ➤ Bay County will host its Waste Amnesty Days on Friday, October 17 and Saturday, October 18 at the Steelfield Road Landfill from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.—residents must bring proof of residency and can drop off many items like appliances, trash, yard debris, and recyclables with no tipping fee. - ➤ Dr. Alison Moody at Ascension Sacred Heart said she has seen more young women seeking breast cancer screening and that genetic mutations like BRCA1 and BRCA2 may raise cancer risk—those with a strong family history should consider genetic testing. WJHG
- ➤ Dr. Lindsey Hoppe, a breast cancer survivor, rebuilt her body with a double mastectomy reconstruction at 30A Smiles—she underwent an eight-hour surgery with over 500 stitches and left the hospital cancer-free and whole.
