- ➤ Residents in Panama City will join the Walk to End Alzheimer’s at FSU Panama City, 4750 Collegiate Drive on Sunday, November 2 to support Alzheimer’s care, support and research. The event begins at 2 pm and continues with a Promise Garden ceremony at 3 pm—followed by a walk. Bay County Coastal
- ➤ Bishop William Wack of the Pensacola-Tallahassee Diocese sent a letter urging Catholics to support humane immigration reform—he said that a truly pro-life community must care for immigrant families and avoid policies that tear them apart. His message came a week after a Pensacola raid that led to the arrest of 30 workers and mentioned local discussions about opening a similar detention facility in Panama City. Panama City News Herald
- ➤ Panama City will host the 2nd Annual Walk-N-Roll, a family-friendly event that raises funds to provide play spaces for everyone. Organizers say the event promotes community inclusion. WJHG

- ➤ A gas leak in downtown Panama City triggered immediate repairs—officials said crews began work on Oct. 15 and continue to monitor the situation. WJHG

- ➤ On Oct 13, SpaceX launched its Starship rocket from Starbase in Texas, and residents in Boynton Beach and Delray Beach saw it+mistaking it for a meteor. Hours later, a Falcon 9 lifted off from Cape Canaveral to send Amazon satellites into orbit. Panama City News Herald
- ➤ The Bay County Chamber of Commerce announced that Al McCambry is its new president and CEO. A lifelong Bay County resident, he led operations at Point Broadband and worked at Gulf Coast State College where he helped secure over $18 million in grants — and he served on several local boards. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Oaks by the Bay Park became a member of the Trail of Florida’s Indian Heritage on October 15 — joining a network that preserves Native American history. The park will have its own webpage on the Trail website and help feature Panama City in brochures at welcome centers and cultural sites. City of Panama City
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Bay County students under 19 are invited by the Optimist Club of the Beaches to enter an essay contest on how acts of service shape community for the 2025—2026 school year. The contest ends on February 06 and awards include $500 for first place and a chance at a district-level $2,500 college scholarship—questions may be directed to Mike Calidonna at 850-381-0866. - ➤ Panama City officials are seeking state funds to build either an overhead walking bridge or an underground tunnel (which will connect Frank Brown Park and Pier Park). The project will give pedestrians a safer route and will be developed if the funds are approved. Panama City News Herald

- ➤ Three local high school volleyball teams advanced to district championship matches today—North Bay Haven defeated Bozeman 3-0, Bay High won a five-set match against Pensacola, and Mosley swept Arnold.
