- ➤ First Baptist Church in Panama City is now holding free food drives every Monday to help people affected by the government shutdown until the government reopens. Volunteers served 305 families and distributed 1,785 meals on November 3rd—supporting the community during this challenging time. WJHG
- ➤ Upgrades have been completed at Lynn Haven’s Monument Park, where new landscaping, walking paths, visitor seating, and improved disability access now make it easier for people to enjoy the site. The park honors the city’s history as a retirement community for Union Soldiers and serves as a renewed public space for residents and visitors. WJHG
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Streetscape is shutting down its Harrison location as part of a planned business closure—local customers and employees will learn more about the changes soon. Officials have not yet released details on the reasons behind the shutdown. WJHG
- ➤ Residents who want to avoid cooking on Thanksgiving will have several Bay County restaurants open to serve holiday meals. - ➤ Shake Shack began selling its new Big Shack burger today at local locations. The burger—priced at $9.99 and made with two Angus beef patties, American cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, pickles and a secret sauce—is available for a limited time and will be removed by early 2026, while active and retired military personnel receive it free on Veterans Day with valid military ID. - ➤ Volunteers, historians and shipwrights are rebuilding the 145-year-old schooner Governor Stone in Panama City after hurricane damage nearly ended her sailing days—Phase 1 is complete and Phase 2 will soon install a new keel using local wood. FEMA and the Florida Division of Emergency Management are matching local funds with federal support to help preserve this historic vessel and avoid the fate of the scuttled Falls of Clyde. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ City crews work to finish the Harrison Avenue Streetscape Project by adding widened sidewalks, planted trees, a roundabout, and cobblestone pavers. The road from 4th to 6th will be closed from November 3rd to 7th—weather permitting—and the work is set to complete by Thanksgiving. WJHG
- ➤ The US Navy will commission its newest ship, USS Pierre, during a series of events in Panama City from November 7 to November 15; the commissioning ceremony on November 15 at 10 a.m. is open to the public (free tickets must be reserved online by November 10). My Panhandle
