- ➤ First Baptist Church of Panama City hosted its weekly food drive on Monday, serving nearly 1,800 meals to over 300 families, many of whom had not received help before. Ascension Sacred Heart Bay held a ribbon cutting on Monday for a new mobile PET scan machine, the Navy will commission USS Pierre from Nov. 7 to 15, and Chef John Phelps is offering 150 free spaghetti dinners to families amid the government shutdown + local events continue to support residents. - ➤ The Women’s Civic Club of Panama City Beach announced a Fall Fling Arts and Crafts Show at Frank Brown Park this Saturday from 9 to 3 — visitors can shop local arts and crafts, enjoy sweet treats, and meet local artists and authors. WJHG
- ➤ Bayside Books owner Whitney Gregg organized her book club Bookish Baddies to offer free non-perishable food and drinks for locals affected by SNAP cuts. The drive at 403 W 11th Street runs every Tuesday starting at 9 a.m.—supplies are available until they run out. My Panhandle
- ➤ Girls Inc. of Bay County will host its 10th Annual Boots and Bling Gala this Friday at 5:30 p.m.—tickets are on sale and proceeds will support its local programs. WJHG
- ➤ Local chef John Phelps used extra flour and tomatoes to make 150 homemade spaghetti dinners for families in need amid the government shutdown; he prepared the meals on Monday at Ferrucci’s kitchen and delivered them in Panama City Tuesday plus he is planning chicken alfredo delivery next week. - ➤ AV Arts Society in partnership with Panama City Songwriters Festival will host Four Rooms: A Time Traveler’s Jukebox at the Panama City Center for the Arts — 19 E 4th Street — with check-in beginning at 6:30 p.m. on November 6. Participants will take a musical scavenger hunt through four themed rooms in downtown that feature live performances, themed bites, and beverages while supporting Bay Youth Music Association. - ➤ Panama City’s 7th Annual Songwriters Festival will kick off on Friday from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. with 65 artists performing at eight downtown venues (19 E 4th St.) and continue on Saturday with general and VIP ticket options; all proceeds will support youth music programs through Bay Youth Music Association. - ➤ Dolly Parton’s Pirates Voyage Dinner and Show will debut its holiday show tomorrow at Buccaneer Bay as Captain Blackbeard and his crew search for a lost satchel of Christmas gifts; the performance will run through Jan. 3 and include a four-course meal and acrobatic acts—setting a new festive tradition on the Emerald Coast. - ➤ Panama City Beach lifeguards are using winter months to train — they practice jet ski, dive, medical and map skills to prepare for spring break. The old Fire Station 32 building will become a new beach safety headquarters soon — a move that upgrades their support. WJHG
- ➤ A local chef stepped up on day 34 of the government shutdown to help his neighbors—an act that shows community support during federal delays. WJHG
- ➤ The Panama City Rescue Mission has seen daily meal distributions jump from 30–40 to over 60 people since the federal shutdown began 35 days ago.
