- ➤ On Saturday, September 20, the VFW Post 8205 Auxiliary hosted its sixth annual ‘Santa for Sims’ Poker Run at its Post in Panama City and raised $8,558 to support the Clifford Chester Sims State Veterans Nursing Home by buying Christmas gifts for its 120 residents—every prize winner donated back their winnings. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Central High School principal Jeremy Knapp received a Kiwanis Club grant to purchase tools—like rakes—for students to use at Bear Creek Feline Center, a sanctuary for exotic cats. - ➤ Central High School offers a learning environment where about 115 to 130 students earn up to 10 credits per year at their own pace and can earn NCCER and OSHA 10 certifications. - ➤ Multiple wildfires broke out across the panhandle last weekend amid ongoing drought conditions, and most fires are contained in areas with burn bans such as Bay and Washington while some remain active.
