  • Heavy black smoke was seen billowing from Gulf Crest Condos on March 17, signaling a fire under investigation.  WJHG

  • Forever 21 filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Monday and asked to close 355 stores including all 23 Florida locations — the company said gift cards will be honored until April 15 and sales will be finalized by April 30.  Panama City News Herald

CRIME NEWS

  • A 19-year-old was arrested over the weekend when deputies found a stolen gun—along with marijuana— during a short-term rental eviction.  WJHG
  • Three Panama City residents were arrested on March 15 after a traffic stop in Youngstown on Highway 231 led law enforcement to find 132.2 grams of methamphetamine and 74.4 grams of fentanyl tossed from the vehicle—investigators say the suspects had traveled out of state for the drugs and now face multiple trafficking charges.  WJHG
  • Panama City Beach Police will increase penalties for spring break violations with special event zones beginning noon Thursday until 5 a.m. Monday on Pier Park Drive to Hill Road + Jackson Boulevard to Joan Svenue, warning that doubled traffic fines, vehicle impoundments, and extra charges for unpermitted truck rallies will be enforced.  My Panhandle

  • A precautionary boil water notice is in effect for residents and businesses from 4506 Bay Point Rd to Jan Cooley Dr, covering Weakfish Way, Hatteras Ln, Merriott Dr, Kingfish Ln & Dr, Loch Legend Ln and Marina Club Dr as officials replace a six inch valve. Officials say water service will be restored by 4:00 p.m. today but discolored water may persist for 24 hours until repairs finish and a safety test is passed.  My Panhandle
