BUSINESS NEWS

  • EG America will open its new Cumberland Farms store at 23rd Street and Beck Avenue in Panama City to offer food, fuel, and a car wash and will hire between 50 and 75 workers — marking its eighth location in the area.  My Panhandle

CULTURE NEWS

  • Panama City Ballet will hold its annual Nutcracker casting call on August 10 at Tonie’s Dance Workshop at 2342 Stanford Rd. Executive director Tiffany Swan said dancers may audition to join the ballet for the holiday season.  WJHG

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At Holy Nativity Episcopal School, award-winning eighth grader Devin Jani has invented the hobby hand—a wearable glove with a built-in drill that keeps his tools at his fingertips. Jani will learn on July 28 if he will compete internationally while he works to improve the prototype with more features for everyday use.  My Panhandle

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Philip Griffitts Sr. Parkway is halfway done with two completed phases, and at a Tuesday meeting commissioners chose the northernmost option from Clara Avenue to Chip Seal Parkway—this decision reduces impacts on Breakfast Point and avoids environmental concerns. Engineers will begin designing the route, with plans expected to take two years before property acquisition and construction start at an early estimated cost of about $100 million.  WJHG
  • The Judicial Nominating Commission is reviewing candidates for two judge positions—one for Bay County and one for the 14th Judicial Circuit—to help ease heavy caseloads as applications are due August 1 and interviews will be held August 29. The commission will take around 60 days to complete its selection process before recommending candidates to the governor.  My Panhandle
  • Panama City officials completed the Voluntary Home Buyout Program today by buying Kelli Cianelli’s home that flooded repeatedly—she received about $100,000—and the property will be handed to the fire department for training before a future plan for its use is developed.  My Panhandle

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Florida Department of Health reported that 11 cases of Vibrio vulnificus — known as the flesh-eating bacteria due to its rapid tissue destruction — have been recorded in 2025, leading to four deaths, including one in Bay County.  Panama City News Herald
